I think it depends on the size of the group. It would definitely be better for smaller groups. I went to one with about 20 kids, and there was very little for the kids to actually do. Only the birthday boy got to be involved. Maybe that would be ok for an older kid's birthday, but this one was for a 5 year old with guests ranging from 3-8. It was hard for the kids to see well, and most kids wanted to run around.

I don't know. I just went to another type of "theme" party (not science) and it sucked. It was horrible. It was like sending kids to school.

My kid went to one in the fall for a 6yo, and thought it was great (even recently was talking about how they made silly putty and saw electricity).

I can only find reviews from 2010 and 2012. Has anybody hosted or been to one more recently?

It is for a 8 yo.
