NP here. The cabinet is only 9" so it's above the window. So, something like this:

OP--you can get nice LED lighting now that will last much longer than flourescent and give you better lighting. With LED's, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Lots of good options. My brother was visiting over the holidays and helped us out by replacing two of our kitchen can lights and the globe light over the eat-in area with LED versions of the same. We were surprised how good the LED lights work. In the past, I have had issues with LED lights not spreading well and the light was very focused, but the new globe light has a spread much better than the incandescent globe that it replaced. The two can lights (he replaced the 2 out of 6 lights that were closest to the eat-in area so we could see how they looked before we committed to buying for all of them) look virtually the same as the ones he didn't replace and this will save us money in the long run. I'll be going out to get the same lights for the other 4 fixtures soon.

Can you post the globe lights that you used? I was considering something like a pendant light, not sure if that is the same.

OP here. The cabinet in question is 9" tall, down from the ceiling. The window also starts 9" down from the ceiling, so the cabinet does not block the window. I think it is 9" high and 30 inches long and sits between 2 normal top cabinets.

I'm having a hard time visualizing a window with a cabinet that doesn't block it, but I like a can light over the sink.

Our kitchen sink light fixture (florescent) has failed and I'm looking for a new light fixture. I was set on some hockey puck LED fixtures, but I found out yesterday that they are only meant for under cabinet and would not provide enough lighting for a sink area.

I would like to avoid another florescent light... our last one lasted just 4 years.

The sink is at a window, but there is a 9" high cabinet at the very top by the ceiling where the light fixture would be. The 9" cabinet does not block the window.

Suggestions are appreciated.
