DS was 15, almost 16 months. He's now 5 (almost 6) and very active with no delays.

All kids are different. His older brother was 11 months, younger sister was 12 months.

Mine didn't walk until 19 months. Ped wasn't even slightly worried.

14-15 months is NOT late for walking. Nor is it "late-ish."

Mine stood on her own at 14 1/2 months and then walked clear across the room the next day. She'd LOVED push toys for awhile before that, but literally waited to take steps when she could walk. It was a long weekend and when I brought her into daycare the next week the teachers were pretty much baffled! About 3 days later she started to try running and hasn't slowed down since. Now a VERY active 2 year old.

I have an almost 15 month old DS op, and he is exactly the same. Very fast crawler, cruiser, downward dogger, puller upper and can get up a flight of steps (and down - backwards) like Lightning.

He has taken naybe one or two shaky steps only. He seems string in every other way but walking. It's shaky and unbalanced.

Mine walked at 14 months -- or so I thought!!! I was so excited to share with my daycare provider and she was so happy for me....and then I realized that he had been walking with her for several days but she wanted us to be "first." We had a good laugh when I finally got her to admit it.

I agree not to worry. Mine also walked at 15 months and I wasn't worried, although I was starting to get anxious, due to the phenomenon that the PP above pointed out, that very child you hear about seems to be walking by 12 months. Mine took a long while to move from standing to steps. Even after he mastered walking, it took him a few months to completely dispose of crawling and scooting. It sounds like your little one is right on target!

OP, my just turned 15 month old is similar: lightning fast crawler, pulls up, cruises, can walk comfortably holding a hand. Yesterday he climbed up a flight of stairs, much to our surprise. He'll be standing, and clearly want to go between two items, and you can almost see him debating whether he wants to attempt the step or crawl. Crawling still wins.

I'm not worried about him (at this point). He hasn't gone from sitting to standing, at least that I've seen, but I know he'll be walking at some point. If we get near to 18 months and he's still not walking, we'll go from there. My first walked at 14 months, and I know the feeling of seeming like every other kid was walking by then, but they're not. There's a huge range of normal (in many domains, not just gross motor).

15 mos that is, not 15 minutes.

Mine waited until 15 or 16 mos to really get walking. Around 15 minutes he did some things like you describe, and while he would often look like he was JUST about to take a step - he would go to crawling. He didn't even cruise much actually, he got around so fast crawling, why bother with cruising or walking? At least that's what it seemed like was going through his mind. Even when he did take steps and start to walk, before he could walk well he would often "give up" and go back to crawling because he could go so darn fast doing that, instead.

Sounds like yours is right on the cusp, just let it happen and it will before you know it.

That's why I called it late-ish (this is OP). Not super concerned, but he is later than most of his classmates/peers at this point.

2. No, that's pretty common.
Don't worry about a delay. People whose kids walk at/before 12 months talk about it a lot and people whose kids walk later do not, which is why everyone thinks that all kids walk by 12 months. 15 months is definitely not a big deal. If he can stand up and cruise and he's a great crawler, he'll be fine. Start to worry at 17 months, in my opinion.

there was a post a few weeks ago and a bunch of us seemed to be in a similar state. DS2 is now nearly 15 months. He's super physical - cruises, crawls like lightning, pulls up, walks well with a walker or holding fingers, etc. Just last night, he started going from sitting to standing - will get up to a standing position from sitting (uses his hands to help him get into a downward dog position, then pushes back to stand), stand there in awe for 10-15 seconds, then fall on his butt. He was even doing it on command - "Johnny, stand up!" and seemed very proud. He probably did it 10 times last night and 5 this morning (3 year old DS1 was encouraging him

That said, he's never taken even one independent step. Beginning to worry slightly about a delay. My older son took steps between furniture, people etc for months before he could go from sitting to standing without help.

So I guess two questions, since I don't remember any of this well -

1) how long does it usually take to go from getting to a standing position alone to walking?
2) is it unusual for a baby to learn to go from sitting to standing independently before ever taking steps alone?
