Not the OP, but no. We need to have 2300 billable hours a year, time off paid or not is a luxury we don't have. Admittedly, pay is good above the 2300 though.

Are you a mom? How many days did you take off when your child was born. I assume from this answer you went back the next day. Am I wrong?

Why not try a little planning and use summer break as maternity leave?

NP here - and a lawyer. I didn't even take off the days my kids were born. Even when my first was born as a preemie. I was at the hospital, in early labor, emailing clients. My water had broken and I was in labor and there was nothing else that could be done but wait. So I grabbed my phone and worked.

Any work that's not in front of the client (e.g. the kid in my case) doesn't count as work. At least that's what teachers are told over and over again.

What are you talking about? The threads I've read about teacher gifts are posted by the parents. I am a teacher and I don't get any gifts. My principal pays for a Panera boxed lunch for us for Teacher Appreciation Day in May. That's it.

Why are you posting this on 2/3? Who is asking you for gift money in early Feb?

Look I appreciate our teachers. I really do. But enough with the gifts. I mean the constant obsessing on these boards about starbucks gift cards, end of year gifts, class birthday gifts. Then on top of it, teacher appreciation so more gifts, more thank yous. Seriously there are a lot of people in our lives that deserve thanks and they don't get one. It just seems like too much.
