Sheer hose, close-toed pumps. Depending on the dress, you might be able to wear sheer black hose if you don't like the look of nude hose.

Get a good pair, hose are not something to pick up from your nearest big-box store (and I buy tons of clothes from Target, not a store snob, but good hose make a big difference). Go to Nordstrom and stretch the little sample sets over your forearm to pick the right shade.

Wear sheer stockings. The Spanx line at Target is actually really comfortable b/c they are thicker.. Not the nasty feel of cheap stockings.

I'm wearing a 3/4 sheath dress to a formal event in NYC. In the winter, I usually wear tights with booties when I wear a dress but this is a more formal event and I will be wearing pumps so should I wear sheer hose instead? I hate the feel of pantyhose but I definitely can not be barelegged in this weather.
