I have a son. In several ways, I think it's easier to have a daughter, because she has control over the pregnancy. But I will tell him he's 100% responsible for birth control. That women, even the most honest, most responsible women sometimes mess up their birth control methods, so it's critical he participates, too. And I'll explain the real dangers of teen pregnancy, health and economic.
I will also tell him if he gets his girlfriend pregnant, I will support them 100% in whatever they decide to do. And that means financially committing as best I can to see both son and girlfriend graduate and move toward higher education of some sort. And of course with supporting the baby. But I would also be the one driving them to the clinic if that's the choice they make. Or be there if they want to choose adoption. And honestly, adoption would be the hardest for me to accept. That would really test me. But I'd support them.
