It really depends on the school, the classroom teacher, the shadow and the child. My child, who has ASD, has a preschool shadow in a traditional classroom. The purpose of his shadow is teach him appropriate behavior which includes asking another child to play with him, sitting for circle time, etc. The behavior shadow teaches both proper interactions and reduces improper behavior.

Depends on how the shadow is integrated to the classroom. Sometimes, it becomes "the shadow following the child around", the child is gradually excluded from the class. Shadow is only effective if there's a good collaboration / communication between the school and parents.

Did you get shadow and were you able to modify?

My experience, yes. But we were given a choice, leave or bring in shadow.

Are behavior shadows just a polite way for a private preschool to tell you to get out?
