Redfin's not home is a data driven means to drive viewers to its website. It's like a Zillow Zestimate, slightly useful but not a reflection of reality

I also think the "hot home" designation has something to do with the price (not just how many favorites/tours/etc) as sometimes houses come on and are basically instantly designated a hot home. I have been seeing houses designated as "hot homes" that have clear, significant problems and where the list price does not adequately reflect those problems (in other words, if the house was in good condition/not located right next to the highway/etc. it would be a great deal -- but given the specific characteristics of the house, it's not a great deal and often is overpriced). And then they sit.

But redfin is "tiny" and "not a player" (right?!)

All the hot homes go quickly in the McLean and pimmit hills area. It was to do with price point and smaller sizes

How does the home get that designation?

There's one "hot home" now that had sat on the market for awhile in the fall. I guess it finally got an offer but it fell through and has been delisted. We went to see it last fall and it smelled like an ashtray even though it had been repainted and the carpets all replaced. I find it hard to believe that it is going to sell quickly.

here is the deal you get excited that a home you are looking at is a hot home, you offer full price it is all psychology. when you could easily have gotten the same house for 20k less
