the communication for 3 weeks is really rudimentary. parents can email (through a paid 3rd party). But your daughter can't email back. So the only communication is through the camp - USPS mail from rural WV. We didn't get half the mail until after our daughter was back. Other camps allow more communication, but the big part is direct / timely communication. The food was not great.

And for those of with more of more northern or western sensibility, it has a really strong southern flavor, particularly the gray and blue colors / teams (see civil war uniform colors).

Thanks for your feeback. This is what I am worried about. What camp with cabins did you look into? I have looked at some of the closer ones and you know I don't love that they say you can pick cabins with a group of friends. I just see issues with that. Looking for the Alleghany feel with just a little bit more comfort. I am hoping to present dd with some different options. Also looked at Camp Seafarer/SeeGull but that almost seemed like Disney world so less than a camp like that. If that makes sense. Thank you again.

My daughter attended for 2 summers and loved it. She went with 1 friend, but they were not put in the same tent, which I liked. We did not send her back after term camp because she had a raw, sunburned nose and 2 full cans of sunblock. Everything was wet, dirty or damp from sleeping in the tents on platforms. I swore I'd only send her to a camp that had cabins after that. Also, you have to choose your activities and stick with them for the duration of camp. Other camps let you try everything, this one does not.

Hello-would like if anyone who has gone can answer questions on term camp. Little concerned about three weeks for a nine year old going alone. DD is outgoing and has said she wants to go, even looked it up as some friends are going. They are going to the term camp date that we cannot do so DD would be arriving without a friend. I am told it does not matter at this camp but not sure if that is actually accurate. I never did a camp like this. Also, they sleep in tents, not sure about that? For people who sent their kids, how is that? Worried about bats flying in while sleeping and or animals, spider you name it. Can you tell I am not outdoorsy but child is what can I say. I have tried to encourage her to do the cabin camps but she has has no interest. We could also go to the Greenbrier resort while she is there but not for three weeks. Again, any feedback would be nice. The director has said they can put me in touch with a local family but I almost feel bad doing that, with work/life, I can't imagine anyone other than internet really wanting to talk to me. So, feedback again appreciated. Also, if not this camp, what would be similar but with a few more amenities? I like the honor system, the no gossiping that sort of thing.
