Sorry to hear that. I'm obsessed with mine. I have a best recliner in ds's room but got dutaliere glide/recline for DDs room and as far as I'm concerned, it was completely with the doubled price tag.

You might not need one. I did all my nursing on the couch or in bed.

Yes. Get one that swivels, too.

And they aren't so expensive that you will feel bad ditching it or giving it away for your kid to take to college.

Note: It's not just about rocking the baby, it's about having a good place to sit and snuggle for stories, and for you to sleep in when the baby is sick and wants to be held upright all night long, and for your kid to curl up in and read as s/he gets older. Focus your aesthetic concerns on paint colors and bed linens. The chair needs to be functional.

I was all set to get rid of my son's Dutailier when he was 10 or so. He wouldn't let me, because he likes sitting there to read.

Best Chairs has a couple with cleaner lines. Get a recliner BTW, not a glider.

Have you SEEN the styling on baby gear? The glider is going to be the least of your worries. (No really, once you have the baby, you'll care a lot less about "urban styling" and more about the particular usefulness of equipment in helping get baby to eat, sleep, and be poop-free.)

I'm not sure who the marketing genius was that convinced all parents that they "need" a glider. Basically you can rock your kid without a chair or just in a regular rocking chair.

Or you can just pick a chair you like and buy the glider mechanism yourself and attach it to the bottom (only works if it's an upholstered chair with a skirt, obviously, which may not work for you). The mechanism is only like $35.

Another option is an Eames rocker -- I have a knockoff one that's actually pretty comfy.
