I love the fluffiness of a couple of them, so this is a great idea. I don't know why I didn't even think of washing, so I just looked, and I'll be darned, there's washing instructions. I'll blame it on stress.


I wash them in HOT water on the extended wash cycle hoping to kill dust mites.

I replace annually and use a dust cover - but mine are memory foam and can't be washed.

Tennis ball in the dryer with them.

And be careful with the heat settings on the dryer. Friend of mine lost her house last week from a fire caused by a pillow in the dryer.

Bamboo pillows can be washed! They are a little pricey- but worth it!

Not too long ago, I replaced every pillow and put waterproof covers on the kids' new pillows. For the adult pillows, I just put on some dust mite covers since I have allergies. It does provide an extra layer of protection against drooling. Foam rubber pillows are known for absorbing what we "excrete" and becoming moldy.

I'm a chronicle pillow replacer. I replace pillows about every six months, or more often if need be. I buy in bulk at Tuesday Morning and look for hypoallergenic.

I also change pillow cases once a week.

Full disclosure, I was getting acne along my chin, likely from my sleeping position against the pillow. So, changing cases more often helps. Two of my kids have dust allergies, so this is justification for tossing and replacing the pillows often. One stain on a pillow sans case and in the trash it goes.

I was just changing linens this morning and got a whiff of pillow. OMG, what the heck are we excreting to make these things smell like this? I bought these pillows about 1 1/2 years ago when we moved into this home.

I really can't remember specifically buying replacements in the past, but maybe when they seemed "flat", or when I upgraded bedding. I want to say they were about $25 each from BBB, so not super cheapies from Walmart or anything. FWIW, they feel like synthetic down, as I can't feel any hard pokey feathers and I can't imagine I'd have bought authentic down - but I'm not sure.

What kind of pillows do you buy and how often do you replace?
