I haven't been but I'm considering it for a future vacation in a few years. I'd love to hear what you find, OP.

Honestly, I think Sardinia is one of the best and undiscovered place in Europe.
It offers a lot to every kind of tourist. I'm a mum and I can tell you that an holiday there can be absolutely family friendly.
As I'm from Alghero I know very well this part (nord west) and I can give you loads of suggestions if you need them.
Alghero has beautiful cafe', restaurants and beautiful beaches only 10 minutes away, and it offers varied outdoor activities such as trekking, snorkeling, diving, wine tasting, farming, agriturism, bird watching, safari tours.
best beachs near Alghero: LE BOMBARDE, LAZZARETTO, STINTINO
Airport: alghero airport 10 minutes by car (Ryanair, easyjet, Thompson...)
Hope it is useful,
Saluti,
Anna

I went there as a child - we were living in Europe at the time, and it was cheap.

Frankly, it wasn't that great. I can think of many destinations I would rather go to in Europe than Sardinia.

Has anyone else been there and any suggestions on best towns/beaches?
