Oh, and canisters are PERFECT for hard wood floors. If that's all you have then buy one of the cheaper Mieles that doesn't have an electric hose. I think it's only $399. I had to buy a more expensive one because I have both hardwood/area rugs and medium pile carpet.

I bought a canister for this reason - gets under my sofa and the baby's crib. Gets around things very easily and makes the stairs SO much easier to vacuum.

We have several vacuums. A kirby for carpet (which is too high for under furniture) and a Miele canister vac for hardwoods. Canister vacuums in general would have NO problem going under low furniture. I think you need both!

The only way to clean for me is to move the sofa, which I hate. We have hardwood floors. My housekeeper's vacuum (or miine) is too high for our sofa. Is there any light weight vacuum cleanerthat can effectively clean under low profile furniture? Thanks!
