Didn't you already post this complaint? Like a month ago?

Wow. Your mil went out of her way to find something that she thought you really wanted (since it was on a "wish list", I think it's reasonable to assume you wanted it.) I wish my MIL was like that.

Um, set that to private. It's not hard at all.

Just return the item, pay for shipping, and see this as a lesson to be learned about privacy settings!

This is not a legitimate complaint. You sound like an 8 year old spoiled brat. STFU. Seriously. Come back to us when your brain is fully developed.

Amazon should let you return gifts. At least for credit. Did you get a packing list/order ID?

I think you can only be mad at yourself here. What MIL did was pretty reasonable.

Okay, let me get this straight.

You created an Amazon Wish List and set the privacy settings to Public, meaning anyone at all on the Internet could find it by entering your name. And your MIL did so, and you six of the items as gifts.

Rather than setting the Wish List to Private or using their "Idea List" function or entering Notes and saying "Don't Buy This.

She was apparently supposed to be psychic.

She had the nerve!!! to buy you items from your list.

Now instead of just using the packing slip to return the items, you are beefing and bitching?

You sound like a nightmare.

OP, do you realize the angst you have decided to take on over this? I think it's irresponsible considering your relationship should be paramount. Clearly you want to stir the pot of resentment. Stop being a trouble maker. She may be too, but that doesn't make it a good thing for you to be.

Call up Amazon - maybe they can help you create a return label even though you didn't buy it? They might be able to confirm it was bought in connection to your wish list.

Going forward - you can make your wish list not public. Also, be careful to comb through it so any sensitive, personal items aren't accidentally saved on there. We had a close call with that when DH didn't realize the wish list & the "save for later" lists were different.

Why not sell it on Ebay?

Argh! MIL found my Amazon wish list at Christmas time (it's not a real wish list, it's just something I use for myself to keep track of things I'd like to buy or consider buying in the future, but I haven't told anyone about it, not even DH knows about it, meaning MIL must have gone to Amazon and searched for my name and pulled up my wish list, I didn't even know it was public, I didn't pay attention to those settings) and bought one of six very similar items that I've been researching (like I had six of the same item, just different brands and models b/c I hadn't decided which one I wanted yet). I don't know why she picked the one she picked but of course it was the one that I had already crossed off of my own personal list but just hadn't deleted from my Amazon wish list yet (the wish list is hundreds of items long, so what possessed her to buy this one thing, I have no idea). Now I'm trying to return it and return shipping is 1/4 of the cost of the item. I don't know what to do - keep something that isn't going to be useful to us around the house or just return it but waste the cost of shipping. Help?
