we mostly go for "pull on " pants or shorts with the built in elastic.
I find gymborees sruff to be huge.

Lands End, Gymboree or Gap slim cut.
Lands End is the best for us for slim sweat pants, swim suits and shorts.

Gap with the adjustable waist fit my son well. H&M also has pretty decent selection for adjustable-waist pants; they seem to hold up as well as Gap kids.

Abercrombie and Gap both sell slim cuts with adjustable waists. They're the only things my skinny kid can wear.

My kids were super skinny at that age. The Land's End jeans fell off of them, even when we cinched the adjustable waistbands as far as they would go.
Old Navy sells jeans that are a bit skinnier and they worked better.

Lands End sells most of their pants in Slim. I have to buy them for DS, almost 8, or else he only wants to wear his size 6 pants, which look like capris.

I found that Sears carried several line of skinny jeans for boys, you can frequently find them on sale too.

My son is almost 5 and still not even 40 pounds, I find crewcuts or mini boden stuff run more narrow than gap, target, etc. I also basically gave up on buying him jeans

My son needs a 5T in length, but the waist is always enormous on him. Any suggestions of pants that work well for skinny boys? I brought him a belt, but he is having some trouble with it, and I don't want him to have an accident (he's 5).
