I'm the pp with butcher block. Honestly, I got it because it was cheap and meant to replace it ASAP... To my surprise, it has worn very well (7 years in), looks good, and is in no need of replacing. 5 years in I gave it a quick go with an electric sander and then it looked like new. I hit it with tung oil once a year, and initially/after sanding I did 3–4 coats of tung oil. Would not bother with wax or mineral oil.

Home Depot can do stock countertop. It's fairly cheap.

Butcher block - yuck. Too me it looks dated and too hard to take care of.

5k here. Good point. That was cabinets, butcher block countertop, and installation only. No plumbing since i just replaced what was there with new, no new appliances, no electrical work. Backsplash tiling and floor tiling was NOT included. I paid around $4k for all that stuff (chose expensive tile). I'm sure I'm forgotting some things, so call it $10k total.

The questin is what's does that include. Have them break down labor costs, including, plumbing, electrical, etc. how much are cabinets, flooring, light fixtures, sink, etc.

Mine is 14x6.5 so the same size. Was going to try to put a narrow cabinet or two on the other wall too but does sound like I should keep looking. Not sure I want IKEA but will think about it.

I am the 5K poster. 14X7, so small, and a galley, so I only did one wall.

I did choose the more expensive doors (Abstrakt).

Galley kitchen. Just want to replace cabinets and counter. Went to get estimate and was told $20k. More than I was thinking. Said they could reduce if I did thermafoil rather than wood cabinets. But still seemed high. Thought it would be cheap/easy there.
