At our previous house, we painted the cabinets ourselves. I think it was oak and we painted it white. Regardless of who does the work, the trick is to degrease the surface with a special cleaner. I forget the name exactly, but it has "tri" in the name and you can ask at Home Depot. Take all the cabinet doors off hinges. Clean and lightly sand all surface to be painted. We laid out the doors flat on dining room floor. This keeps the drip lines to a minimum. We primed and painted both sides. We would do one side and let it dry over couple of days. Then do the reverse side. Needless to say, it took us several weeks, but the results were very good and looked professional.

Thanks for your advice. We would definitely have a professional painter. It might be oak. Does anyone know professional painters who will do this job?

If you want to do it yourself, buy a spray paint machine. My handyman just bought a (small) one to paint my blinds and future jobs… it did an amazing job, very fast and looks like out of the fabric. The machine cost $400 something.

I did this myself in my old house. Oak cabinets and the grain did not show prominently. I did sand and prime first. After several years when I got ready to sell there were some chips so I had a handyman repaint them and it was cheap - about $300 I think.

What kind of cabinets are they? Oak wouldn't paint well, the grain would always bleed through

We would have to have our cabinets painted white. Has anyone had experience with this and can you recommend a painter who specializes in cabinets:.., or could any painter do it? It seems like there's sanding to do first. Thx for any help!
