I think it's great, rather than a huge break in the summer. I'd love more of a break in the spring (2-3 weeks) and in the fall (2-3 weeks). Friends of mine in good school districts in the Raleigh, NC area and the Austin, TX area have kids in the so-called "year-round" school districts. The kids like that they have more frequent breaks, and camps have sprung up to coincide with the longer quarter breaks, so it's no harder than dealing with the long-ass break in the summer.

I absolutely would. It would make trip planning so much easier, we wouldn't all have to cram all our traveling into the busiest/most expensive travel weeks of the year. It would also help with knowledge retention. I think 6 weeks is plenty for a summer break, still lots of time to loll around and go to the pool, etc.

This is what "year-round school" typically means and I support it.

No, absolutely not. Kids need a break, a long break in the summer to be kids. And kids in high school? They need to get away from all they do during the school year. You will see an increase in suicides if there was all year school (or "modified") because then kids never would really get away from school. And teens need a chance to try internships if they want in the summer.

If you were a kid, you know you would want summer break. A few extra weeks between the school year isn't the same. Don't try to take summer away from kids.

This would be perfect! You have the option of taking a big trip 4x per year, instead of only in summer.

I thought they tried this some years back with some elementary schools. I remember Timberline Elementary had something like this. But no longer does. Was this a pilot experiment that did not work?

I would! Mine in HS now. Basically they get the last week of June and July off. All of August is sports. The Winter Holidays are the most expensive time to travel as is the Spring break. So if they really just had the modified schedule I see in other districts which is something like 5 weeks summer, three weeks Winter, 3 weeks Spring. Something like that. Summer is only 12 weeks anyway and it was a real pain paying for camps in the summer when they were younger. But FCPS is change adverse, so I would not think that they would do something so progressive.
