I've stayed away from dark wood because I'm lazy and it shows dirt/fingerprints more than light colored wood.

I've brightened up my home with some mirrored furniture. Helps offset the wood pieces and hardwood floors.

Idk, I think craftsman inspired homes tend to have a lot of Cherry (quartet sawn oak) furniture. Is your stuff in this style?

I love the rich look of dark wood, but we have lots of big windows that let in a lot of light. My house is more of a tuscan style, so we have darker woods, and wrought iron. I also warmed it up with a nice paint color. Light, paint, fabrics can do a lot to change a room.

Is it that you don't like it any more? Too dark in your house? Or is it that you fear it's out of date? If you're looking to lighten it up or modernize, you can do some of that through rugs, throw pillows and other accessories. You can have less formal looking art or textiles and that would bring it up to date as well. Ultimately, though, if you like it and enjoy living with it just go on as you are!

I don't think it's bad per se. It's what you do with it that matters.

Yes, Domino! There's actually a wonderful Domino decorating book that is a fun read and super helpful.

+1. Check out rooms on domino.com and House Beautiful to see how to mix up your furniture and make it look more up to date. You'll have to replace some but not all to make it look more modern.

I feel like we've accumulated too much cherry colored furniture in our house. Dark wood dining table, bar stools, desk, bookshelves, my sons room. This is bad and unfashionable right? I can't even find any pictures of houses decorated this way. Any suggestions?
