Wow. Do you actually live in the county? I doubt it. You sound like those racist cowards who hide behind a keyboard and don't want to admit that 90% of their opinion is based on the number of people of color in the county. The county is HUGE. You lose credibility with me when you generalize the entire county, as though other counties don't have challenges with some school performance. Also, take a deeper look at why some PG county schools are struggling, and you may see that a promising student with involved parents will do just fine in most schools.

Horrible public school system. My parents live in ft. Washington and my youngest sister went to the oxon hill middle school and got a STEM scholarship. She went to the Academy of Health and Sciences and did not attend regular highschool (her friends went to oxon hill highschool). She got 65 college credits with a 4.2 gpa but did not get in UMCP or UMBC. She is now at Towson. Most kids now attend Towson or Bowie State. Valedictorian and a few go to UMd.

Just saying, if you are planning to live there for a long time, it's rare to get into a a highly ranked college/uni. My advice is to send your kids to st. Columba.

So now one sends their kids to public. That should tell you something.

Beddow Montessori is a private in Oxon Hill. I knew it years ago and it was a good place for kids, but I don't have updated info.

I live there and have been happy with Maryland International Day school for private. I have many friends that are happy with the public Montessori school named above as well.

We are a very happy non-Catholic family with a child at St. Columba School. They are having open houses this week: Prospective families are welcome at the Saint Columba School Open House events: Sunday, January 25th at any time from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Visit classrooms, meet with teachers, and enjoy a pancake breakfast to support the 8th grade field trip. Or, see classrooms in action on Wednesday, January 28th from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m.

We live nearby in Camp Springs closer to Andrews Joint Base but our daughter attends John Hanson Montessori and is thriving. It is a public school that starts at age 3 (half day) but there are plenty of daycares with pickup midday. It goes up to 8th grade. Oxon Hill high school has a STEM program that's supposed to be like award-winning Eleanor Roosevelt HS in Greenbelt. A brand new building, but testing is required and the school is also open to students that live in the zone, so it may feel like 2 schools in one building. Friendly High School is also zoned for Ft. Washington. There are other magnet programs for TAG identified students like Accokeek Academy. Then of course it's possible to look at independent schools or parochial schools. The trade-off in Prince Georges County is more home for the dollar and proximity to the District. We are happy here but had to figure out the schools. But in a way it opened us up to more possibilities.

Dh and I live in DC. That area may be where we end up settling.
