Agreed. You don't have to move him to AAP now. But you also don't know what immersion or your particular school will look like over the next 5 years either. Since he's already in-pool, I'd go through the AAP process this year just so that if he's accepted you have the option to move him at any time you want. If they're going to screen him anyway based on his test scores, why not present the strongest file you can? Saves more work for you if you decide you'd prefer him to be in AAP later on. I know several parents who didn't pursue AAP 3 years ago for their then-2nd- graders who are doing it for their now-5th-graders so they can be at the AAP center for middle school.

+1 If you're happy with the language arts, I'd stay and if your child is good at math, see if there is advanced math offered at the immersion school that your child can take. It's the same as the advanced math at the center.

You can defer AAP placement until 7th grade if you choose to, and can place him in AAP classes in middle school. 7th grade is five years away and I don't think anyone can confidently state what AAP will look like five years from now.

My son got a 132 on the NNAT in 1st grade. We haven't gotten the scores for his cogat yet, probably later this week?

Does this mean he's in the AAP pool regardless?

Also, if we plan to keep him in his language immersion program and would turn down a center school regardless, do we even need to be concerned with AAP?
