There's lots in the area. If you're outdoorsy, hiking, renting a kayak on Lake Tahoe, horseback riding, etc. There's a tour company that has a big paddlewheel steamboat for tours around the lake. You're close enough to go to Yosemite via Tioga Rd. assuming the snow has melted by the time you go there. There are casinos on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I'm not a fan of Reno, but it also has casinos if that's your thing. Virginia City is an old mining town and Mark Twain hangout that can be fun for kids. I think there's a tourist steam train to Virginia City (or you could drive). You could probably find somewhere that has gold or silver panning for kids.
