I'm not sure how helpful this is/is not...but since Sela was mentioned as a likely option, I thought I'd encourage you towards it. My daughter was in PreK-4 this past year and we're going to re-enroll her for Kindergarten. It's been a really great experience! We love the language immersion model...even though our family has no connection to Judaism, the Hebrew she's learning is great for expanding her mind & cultural awareness. The school is definitely non-religious, just cultural education. Each of the Hebrew instructors are required to be native speakers, so it was cool when one of my colleagues (from Israel) was speaking with my daughter & he said that she doesn't have an American accent...that she sounded native! If you get Sela, I'm certainly an advocate for enrolling your child there.

SSMA may not be as easy to get in as prior years. The age balance has tilted towards the younger end as a result of last year's location shuffle mess. To help fix it, they will be opening a lot fewer PK3 slots than years past. That's not to say that you don't stand a far better chance than most others - just don't count on it as a guarantee.

Since OP is looking for a 1-2 year solution nearish Mann, I suggest Appletree CH & Hope Lamond.

OP, go to this website: http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Learn+About+Schools/Lottery+and+Admissions:+Apply+to+Our+Schools look at all of the PK3 admissions. numbers and waitlist numbers for the schools you are interested in. That will give you a good idea of where you have a shot, and where you don't.

Right, so I'm guessing that OP is looking for a one-year solution. As a DC tax payer she is certainly entitled to enter the lottery but I do think it's a shame for the school when families are just looking for a one year solution to park their kid until they're able to go to their very nice in boundary school. But as we know families leave schools after one year all over the city for myriad reasons. This is a problem created by DC PS by distributing preschool three equally across the city. Of course most of the schools in Northwest Washington yhat don't have preschool three don't have space to add it.

We had an awful lottery draw last pick (I was close to the last waitlist on every school we applied to). I got into my unpopular IB school in the initial lottery and then into Bridges right before school started. I think if you put Bridges on the list, you will get in even with a bad draw, especially since the school will be moving for 2015-2016, so people who can't get to the new campus (in NE) will be applying to the lottery this year.

Why will people on an anonymous board hardly ever say what their IB is? It is so bizarre. Are people that paranoid that they will out themselves?
