DS is 13. Hasn't worn anything but Adidas pants in years. I buy them in bulk at Costco. He has one nice pair of black pants he wears for band concerts and special occasions.

As long as it's appropriate and clean, DS gets to pick his own clothes. I keep a pair or two of khakis in his size and one or two collared or button down shirts on hand for occasions where dressier attire is required, but otherwise I feel that what he wears is up to him.

He's only 5, but I don't see this changing. I think it's good to let kids make their own choices where they can, since they have so little control generally. And I just don't think it's a hill worth dying on.

Op- my son is the same age and we have a similar issue except most regular jeans are too small in the waist and huskeys are too big. Nordstroms jeans (tucker Tate) are the exception. Trek athletic pants from kohls fit well too

Your son is late to the party if he's just now requesting this at age 11.

Both my kids (age 10 & 11) pretty much lives in athletic pants (DS) or yoga pants (DD) and have always strongly preferred soft, knit pants. I insist on khakis or dark jeans for church and other more formal events but I don't see anything wrong with wearing athletic pants to school.

My son hates jeans. HATES. He would rather wear khaki pants than jeans. I think it is the texture. We buy khakis with the adjustable waistband and he wears those frequently in the weekend.

You prefer he wear jeans and dirty t-shirts?

We found Lands End jeans to be helpful for our tween who's growing like a weed. Some styles still had the waist cinching buttons on the inside. The have khakis too.

I don't blame your kid for wanting to wear athletic gear during a growth spurt, but it would be nice to vary it up at least a little bit.

try different brands. Children's Place or Tek Gear (kohls) work best for my son. Other brands are too tight/too long/too loose...

My son is allowed to wear them on the weekend, but no holes and matching shirt in a similar vein. And he can't wear them to church (we have a very laid back church.) He wears a uniform during the week, so I cut him slack on the weekend.

My nephews are in athletic pants probably 80% of the time. They are 20 and 22 and both collegiate athletes (therefore plenty fit for regular clothes)- they put on jeans or pants for basically parties, dinners out with friends and family (although if its wings/beer at a chain place or something with their friends in early evening, even then bets are off) or holiday meals. I think its just a thing for teen boys. Not a hill I would choose to die on. Also, you can get really good deals on these at outlets!

My 11-year old son only wants to wear athletic pants, started this about 2 months ago. He has been growing like a weed the last 6-months and I've tried to keep up in the jeans department, but he complains they are all too tight around the hips. He would be too slim for husky sizes and he is too small for size 14. Is this a battel to fight? Am I setting him up for a lifetime of wearing sweatpants & stained t-shirts?
