We have a much-used family/living room and my husband is determined to replace our coffee table. It's a whitewashed teak, but after 11 years of 2 boys, most of the whitewash has come off and there's just permanent grime set into every crevice. I still like it because it's very sturdy, and the kids will use it to draw, eat, play legos. The colors of the room are light and there's a nice heirloom Persian carpet that I hate to cover. So I'm drawn to glass topped coffee tables as possible replacements- easy to clean and good for a relatively small room - but I wonder if that's just insane. We actually had one that we chucked when my oldest was an infant for safety reasons. Is it going to be too messy and/or too dangerous still?
