We have a 9-foot ceiling in our bedroom and I can touch the ceiling fan with my fingers. Not a big deal. It's not like there are sharpened metal blades on there.

Currently renting and a ceiling fan is mounted in the bedroom (no vaulted ceiling). I raised my hand while standing and hit my knuckle on the fan (i'm 5'8 - not tall)

I have noticed this in other remodels/add-ons.
