Are you serious? It happens all the time. And when they do, conservatives shout them down. Just like they do on this site.

All religion is up for interpretation so I'd say they're real. Just like wackos of any religion are truly religious. Religion can be an incredible force of destruction. I think people are just defending Muslims to try to prevent world war III.

Mainstream religions think if them as a cult. The religion is not very old and was an American religion. So many Mormons left a mainstream religion to join the Mormon church, add in the isolation (both self and from outside) of the early Mormon society, the strong personality and strange leadership in the early days and people think cult. Also Mormons are a growing, actively recruiting religion. This threaten many mainstream religions which are not growing. Remember the religion is so young that we have contemporary third party accounts of the history of the church preserved. So one can read the accounts in the Book of Mormon and read contemporary sources(news paper, court records etc) in English that give a different perspective on the same account. Think of having court records, newspaper articles, county, state, and federal records in English of the Jesus and how Christianity would look like. Read "Under the Banner of Heaven".

And I'm sorry the terrorists and extremists don't seem to understand that the rest of the world really isn't interested in what they do in their own countries. But when they prompt terrorists to attack abroad, they are actively provoking a response. If they really wanted to enforce laws more appropriate for the Middle Ages, no one would care...unless/until it affected the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, we are all too interested in what happens in the Middle East. We aren't going to get anywhere as long as we deny the motive of these groups. They attack us because they consider us a threat. The foundation of this is our political and military presence in the region.

These people cloak themselves in religion. It is much more about power and ego and hopeless people who follow. If I am running a culture or splinter group, the first thing you tell your followers is everyone is against you....including your old religion. They have lost their way/are corrupted/etc. and will only hold you back. Do not listen to them.

I don't know any religion the condones murder. I know several different terrorist organizations that hijack religions, be them christan, muslim or jewish, to engage in terror attacks. How can you ever understand a groups rise to power like ISIS, Gods Army or the Clan if, you only want to talk about them in terms of their religion. Terror is terror not a religon.

I agree with Jeff. We don't decide other people's religions. This is just like those who say Mormons aren't Christian. In reality Mormons say they are Christian therefore they are Christian. Or the way Orthodox Jews refer to themselves as religious, basically implying that Reform, Conservative Jews are not doing it right.

Piers Morgan is an idiot. I would like to think that, regardless of all our other differences, we could al agree on that. Morgan has no right to tell someone what their religion is or is not. Individuals get to identify their own religions. The vast majority of people who consider themselves Muslims don't practice or believe in the horrific practices of IS. Many members of that vast majority have already made statement disassociating Islam as they practice it from IS's version.

However, there is a critical problem of defining whether IS are "real Muslims". The roots of the Islam practiced by IS and by al-Qaidia are the same roots of the official Islam of Saudi Arabia. Were Saudi Arabia take steps to delegitimize IS, it would undermine its own religious authenticity. The US is apparently in no position to rock the boat with the Saudis. Ironically, Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood could have been a useful opponent to IS and al-Qaida. But, due to the US-supported coup in Egypt, those guys are all dead, arrested, or in hiding.

And Salman Rushdie was on Bill Maher last night, and he commented that the ongoing violence and terrorism isn't religious at all. Maher had just commented that religion is to blame, and Rushdie disagreed and put the blame on extremists who clearly are not Muslim. He commented that Isis had just issued a leaflet with instructions on how to treat your sex slaves as a prime example on the warped nonreligious extremists. He went on to say that the Muslim community really needs to deal with this (supporting what Piers Morgan has asserted).

I wonder if the global PC approach to this for the last several decades --- ie: essentially ignoring the human rights atrocities abroad by chalking them up to religious or cultural beliefs --- created the dire situation we are now faced with. The panel on Maher's show discussed this a bit by saying how telling it is that we have significant coverage of the Paris attacks on the media but hardly anything on Boko Harum --- and that clearly that's because western media were affected. But turning a blind eye on the horrific atrocities abroad has resulted in the extremists gaining power and balls to keep moving forward.

I know someone will jump in and say they just want us out of their countries, politics and affairs, but that simply won't work since the international community allows people from Muslim countries to freely travel to our more civilized countries. So they are here and in Europe and in other peaceful nations who would happily let them be if only they would only behave like the majority of 21st century society. Instead, the extremists seem hell bent on dragging society back to the dark ages.
