I tip frequently and often - servers of all kinds, anyone who delivers anything to my house. the guy who parks my car in the garage, the paper delivery men, you name it.

If I'm guilty of being an overtipper, so be it. I've had all kinds of those service jobs - they suck, and a decent tip will make a big difference for the people doing them.

I am not a snob by anyone's definition, but I guess according to these threads, I am an over tipper.

I don't feel I am. I waited tables and had a lot of similar jobs coming up and I get enjoyment in giving a little more because I think it brightens people's day just a bit.

Actually I would rather over tip, than.....GASP - give the same money to a charity, because I think it ends up right in somebody's pocket.

Give 30% at dinner every single time unless there is a serious issue (like maybe one out of 50 times if that), always tip for coffee, a haircut, a valet, hotel service, hotel cleaning, etc, etc.

If you don't want to tip, don't tip but all of these threads about the 'tipping culture' and pushing back to try to change it are ridiculous. You are still getting your coffee. Yours costs you $1 less than mine because you are choosing not to. The end.

Sounds scary. What happens if I don't tip him?

If you ever plan on going back to that garage, better tip the valet a buck.

Coat check, also a buck.

What about parking attendants? Some garages in downtown DC don't allow the drivers to park their cars themselves, and the car keys are handed to the parking attendants. At the end of the day, I pay close to $20 for daily parking and they still look at my hands in hope to receive tips. So annoying.

I agree that it's gotten out of hand. I had a piece of furniture delivered today and did not tip the guys. It was a lightweight piece and I only had to have it delivered because the store happened to have sold out of the item - otherwise I would have put it in my car and carried it in myself. I feel like if I am paying for delivery then that's the service I am getting and I don't need to pay on top of that.

It's a disease that afflicts New York. Some of us are trying to hold the line against it infecting DC.

People seem to forget the only people who get tipped are:

Bartenders, restaurant servers, cab drivers (but not Uber), hairdressers, bellhops, and newspaper carriers (if they are under age 15).
