Exactly. I tip for the service when I eat in. I don't think that swiping my credit card and handing me a bag of food constitutes service.

I don't tip. I also don't know how much to tip and it makes me avoid carryout. When I pick up pizzas sometimes I put a dollar down, but really just have no clue.

I tip a buck or two. It's not the same as a eat-in restaurant meal IMO where you'd tip 15% or 20%.

Pp here: just used those as examples...

Dear pp: please list your go-to restaurants.

I figure I'm not getting any service from the table servers who are living on tips, so no need to tip them. I'm not taking up a seat at the bar, so no need to tip the bartender (unless I have to wait for my order, in which case I'd order a beer and tip on that). I'm usually just picking up a bag of food. The only person who had anything to do with it is the kitchen staff, and they're not getting any tip money.

So you went into the back and got your food yourself from the kitchen?

Dumbass, there is someone who checks the order and puts it all together.

Why are you all so cheap? Is it hard to give the working class a few bucks?

Tipping is for servers who earn $2.35 an hour. The people who fix your food earn more than minimum wage.

Also, you need to improve your roster of go-to restaurants. Those places you listed are all disgusting.

Yikes. Did any of you ever work in a restaurant?

When I was a hostess who also handled take-out /pick-up orders, I was routinely given a few bucks. (And this was in the 80s!)

Delivery 10%

Pickup $1 to the place I go to on a regular basis for lunch. (so that is about 10%.... but only because <$1 seem silly)

It is hit or miss after that.

Carryout, $0, delivery, 15% or $2-3, whichever is more.

I don't tip for carryout. Why would you do that?

I usually tip 10%, but I'd like to know what is the norm.

Thanks!
