My sister's kids go to Harvard Westlake. It a great school. It goes 7-12 and has like 1,600 students. They have two campuses. She had to drive both kids to school each day to different campuses and that is a pain in the ass in LA.

Loyola (all boys) is also a very good school, especially for a strong athlete, but again, it would be a difficult commute from the Palisades.

John Thomas Dye is a possibility for the youngest. From the Palisades, Brentwood will be the easiest commute for your family, followed by Crossroads.

Harvard-Westlake and Polytechnic School (Pasadena) are by far the two most rigorous, academic Los Angeles private schools. However, HW will be a noticeable commute in LA traffic (as will the all-girls Marlborough), and Poly is not even a feasible commute from the Palisades.

My advice to you is to choose Brentwood, and make your life easier for the family.

LA privates are a whole different animal because of the large percentage of celebrities that send their kids to private. I know quite a few people (lawyers, doctors) who sent their kids to parochial school to avoid the celebrity driven culture at some of the independent schools. There are some single sex catholic schools in Beverly Hills that are very popular.

Harvard-Westlake and Crossroads are the two that everyone raved about when I lived there. Crossroads is the hippie-arty school full of movie stars' kids; H-W is really academically rigorous.

Moving to LA. Will be living in Palisades. Need to find schools for rising 4th, 6th, and 9th grader. (At least these are good entry years!) Looking for schools similar to Maret, GDS, NCS, etc. Know a little about Brentwood, but welcome feedback. Many thanks!
