I thought she was looking for toys for the 6-12 month range. Maybe I misunderstood.

Maybe a music activity table. My 2-year old loved it starting from around 6-months to almost 2. She only stopped playing with it because the sound broke and changing the batteries didn't fix the issue. My 7-month old now likes to sit play with the broken activity table, and we're considering getting a new one. Maybe something along these lines:

My daughter loved the mozart music cube for many months. It was one of her favorite toys at 6 months, and she still loved it well past a year.

Books are fantastic. My DS became obsessed with lift the flap books around 10 months. We like Spot, the Karen Katz books, Dear Zoo, and Where's Maisey.

Other great toys for one year are push toys, play remote controls or phones, and wooden puzzles. My DS' favorite toys from his first birthday are a collapsible tunnel and small tent from IKEA. He loves crawling thru the tunnel and running in and out of the tent and now, walking around it.

An old friend just had a baby and claims they have everything they need for up to 6 months. What is a good gift for an older infant (boy)? I'm thinking a fun toy as we were close when we were younger and I think it would suit our relationship.

My kids are a little older and I can't quite remember what they liked at that age. It could be for a little older, but I'd prefer that age range. While I appreciated the baby gifts people got me for the toddler stage I found that it felt like sooo long (for the first baby) between 0 and 1 that the memory of the gift and when I used it wasn't as intense.
