Your analogy is a little flawed. Yes, Disney and McDonalds are aces at marketing, but you've missed the point of the appeal of the movies vs. a happy meal.

I dunno. There's honestly no place I love more. I love the silliness and fun of the whole experience. It requires a bit of planning and strategy to avoid the miserableness of crowds, but totally worth it IMO.
That being said, I still feel like I need to hide where we're going on vacation... I've outright lied to people about it.

It's very sterile, but kids love it. They also put a premium on safety and putting the guest experience first. It's. It the worst kind of vacation for smaller children, especially if they're not the savants discussing Shakespearean meter at the age of three.

Because is a massively expensive to-do and doesn't have any sort of organic, real, grounded, grass-roots culture about it. That being said, I took my kids to Disney last September when it was incidentally convenient and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience (hint: Go the first or second week of September when all responsible parents have their kids in school--no lines!). We also brought our own snacks, bought the kids ONE treat each, and stayed for free at my parents' place. So I didn't feel so... so... whatever that feeling is that comes after you spend $$$$ on a truck load of Twinkies.

Because people like to look down on things so that they can feel sophisticated and superior.

I don't plan on taking my kids until they are a little older but I have no problem with the concept. It's fun for kids. I personally like Epcot.

It's expensive. So is skiing. So is going to Europe. Who cares. People just like to judge.

I feel like some people look down at people who vacation at Disney?

Before I had kids, we traveled the world. I admit that I looked down at some co-workers who seemed to only travel to Florida and the Caribbean. Now that I have 2 young kids, we often vacation in Florida and the Caribbean. We have done an Orlando trip every year since my kid was 3yo. It's just so easy to do the 2 hour flight. When my younger child is 5, we plan to start doing trips to Europe and Asia but for now, we will stick to our FL and Caribbean vacations including our annual trip to Orlando.
