You are right. I guess it depends on the trails. We spent time at Wintergreen when our oldest was 3 and those hiking trails were absolutely perfect for a 3 year old. But we have gone other places that were a little less appropriate for young kids.

I love Cape Breton and have been there dozens and dozens of times but if you have girls I would do the Anne of Green Gables scene in PEI for the kids. The Cabot Trail in NS is amazing but kids wouldn't appreciate it.

We are going to Nova Scotia this summer - our 2 kids will be ages 3 and 5. We are trying to put our itinerary together but are stuck on choosing between PEI and Cape Breton. I'm wondering if any of you have a recommendation. Our plan so far is to fly into Halifax, attend a family event / spend a few days on the South Shore, and then travel north to either PEI or Cape Breton. After spending time at either of those spots, we would fly from that local airport back to DC.

Cape Breton looks amazing for hiking, but our kids are too young for that, so I'm currently leaning toward PEI. . . thanks to anyone that has suggestions for me!
