I did this with ikea bookshelves and then had someone finish the drywall around it. Looks totally custom. Isn't.

You might be able to find a reasonable handyman who is good with carpentry.

I have seen (on Pinterest) that people use regular bookshelves and add crown molding to make it appear more built in.

We have a large landing in our upstairs that would look nice with built-in bookcases, but I think actual built-ins would be too expensive. Any good less expensive options? I'm thinking open shelves on top and some sort of cabinet below. There are three walls that we would need them.
