Cava is awesome! I dated a guy (now DH) for three years when I lived in DC and he lived in Gaithersburg and the three places I enjoyed going to were Dogfishhead, Cava, and A&J.

But if course OP has already gone out...

Wow, this thread makes MoCo look like flyover country as far as restaurants are concerned.
What about Black Market Bistro in Garrett Park?

Yeah, it kind of is. Wanna know why? The alcohol tax. Booze is sufficiently more expensive in MoCo that people drink less of it, which eats into the restaurant's profit margin, which eats into its competitiveness to attract top talent (both chef and staff). There are plenty of hungry affluent people, so there are plenty of under-first-tier restaurants, but for the high-fliers, there's more money to be made, and more expense account business, downtown.

Love Black Market, though.

On the more traditional end of things, there's Tower Oaks Lodge.

The new City Perch in Pike & Rose (formerly Mid-Pike Plaza) has really great food, but unfortunately they're going for a very loud clubby vibe with the music, and their service is still new but learning. They did turn the music down when we and a neighboring table complained.

If you're flexible about that stuff and just want the really good cooking, the stuff was tasty. Entrees were a little $$$, but the wine list was reasonably priced. And the breads were fantastic.

Not international, but we are in the area and like Chef Geoff's on date nights.

Grandma is visiting and agreed to babysit tonight! Where can DH and I go? We're in North Bethesda/Rockville and would like a nice, adultish place. Doesn't have to be tablecloth, just really good food. I wasn't too impressed with Founding Farmers or Matchbox. We love international food. Help! Thanks!
