I've never used them, but Easy Closets might be what you're looking for.

I want real wood too! You hire a handyman with carpentry references, work with him on initial drawings, go buy wood planks with him at Home Depot, and he'll get on with it. I think that's the cheapest option with wood.

My problem is that DH gets in the way - he wants to do it. Which is why I will have my closet when I'm 80!

There isn't anything like what you want. The only option if you want your own contractor to install is to have the contractor construct built ins.

California Closets, etc are ridiculously expensive for very little storage in comparison to Elfa. We got estimates from tons of places and wound up with Elfa. With Elfa for our master closet we have 24 bins (12 on each side) and they hold all of our clothes (we also have hanging rods and shelves). With any of the closet companies it would have been twice as expensive (10K instead of 5K) for about 6 drawers.

I am turning half of my master bathroom into a walk-in closet. There is going to be a window in the middle of it.

Any suggestions on closet organizing systems? I want real wood, not metal hangers or veneer. Rather have something my contractor can assemble or build, and not pay for their installation too.

i.e., something like Closet by Design or California Closets, but that my contractor can install for me.
