How old are your kids?
It would definitely be a no go at my house, but your children may be less inclined to do something to injure themselves. Mine would see it as a challenge.

The fan is a bad idea, but if you remove the fan, the top bunk get impossibly hot. I think you need a different solution.

Our fan couldn't be turned on without the chain, but DD could reach the blades and ripped one off during a tantrum. Nice.

I have find memories of putting piles of playing cards on each fan blade and then turning on the fan and it would "snow" when I was little. This was the 80's.

Get a "low loft." Shorter than a traditional bunk bed.

the bedroom is typical in size, i think 11x14 with 2 windows and a ceiling fan. we would like to keep the ceiling fan but i'm wondering if it's dangerous to have bunkbeds in this case. i'm imagining the fan wacking someone in the head eventually.
