Soon?

Everything I've heard is that it totally sucks. "Excellent" is not a word I've used associated with this movie at all.

+1
Just knowing that Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz are in this movie is enough for me to stay far away.

We just went yesterday and liked it. My son, who is 8, loved it, but he loves musicals. I didn't think it was the best film ever, but it held my interest.

I do think it might be a little difficult for families who have adopted, but I would defer to the Rage Against the Minivan review for that, since I have no experience.

Potential spoiler:

I will say that my son thought the bad guy in this movie was the worst villain ever because he was trying to break up "family." And that was very emotional for him. He's not adopted.

Someone on the other Annie movie thread -- in the Movie forum -- posted a website that talks about movies about adoption themes. You might find that helpful.

I was also adopted when I was a child. Personally, I didn't have any problems seeing the movie. It's so far removed from reality, anyway.

I found this review to be helpful in deciding whether or not to go to the movie:

I loved the classic movie. This retake was horrible. However, you cant be that sensitive to not see an adoption movie.

I think you are overthinking it. But I understand where you're coming from.

I think you are overthinking it. It is a comedy/musical. If your family is too triggered by comedic movies about adoption/fostercare, it sounds like you maybe need to sort out your issues in therapy.

I have heard that it's not particularly GOOD, but not that it's crazy triggering for people who have your background.

I grew up without parents. I adopted a son whose mother abandoned him as a toddler. I also have two daughters. They are in elementary school. My son is a young adult in grad school. They have made soft plans to go see the Annie movie. I will not take the girls myself because I have no desire to see story lines about that - too painful for me. I know my son is an adult, but I am wary of his feelings upon seeing this. Maybe I am overthinking. Sort me out, DCUM.
