Sorry to hijack but quick question, pp. When did you stop monitoring? I've pretty much stopped monitoring my 15 year old but it's his first year of high school and I'm wondering if I have stopped too soon. I have no problem going back to monitoring - just wondering when parents generally stop doing it. Up until now I havent found anything horrible on his phone - just typical dumb teen crap.

I'd give her the beats. It's what she asked for and is hoping for. That said, I'm sure you expected responsibility and hoped she be mature with her decisions regarding her phone.
Now she gets to look at her "useless" beats until you decide she can have her phone back. Let her use her money to buy a CD player and some CD's for her musical enjoyment. She made her bed, now she gets to lie in it

Thanks for the support. I didn't want her Xmas gift to feel like a punishment or anything but positive, but maybe this is the lesson she needs to learn.

I discovered the messages during a routine check of her phone. I started another thread about gaining the phone back and would love to hear about monitoring services.

How old is she? How did you discover the pictures? I'm going through something similar, and trying to decide about a monitoring service or changing the password for the App store acct for the phone to disable apps, and then having all texts come through my phone as well.

As far as the beats, I'd still give it and she can figure out a way to use it or wait to get her phone back.

Seriously. The beats sit idle until she learns her lesson.

She messed up with her phone. It is not your problem to buy her something else because of that. She can just stare at them in the package until she gets her privileges back. Hopefully that makes the lesson even stronger.

We got our teen beats headphones and we know she will love them. However, yesterday I discovered that she had been insanely irresponsible with her phone. Basically sending out inappropriate pictures and the like. Obviously this is is a bigger issue than a Christmas gift and we are taking the appropriate actions to address the behavior. The issue with the Xmas gift is that she listens to music on her now suspended from droid, mostly pandora.

What are safe ways for her to listen to music with her new headphones but prevent her from texting and using inappropriate apps (like kik) as well as the internet? I thought about a shuffle but was worried that we would have to purchase a lot of music since she doesn't own any.
