OP here. We did, in fact, apply for 6th. I know it's competitive to get in, so I was trying to get a feel for our chances.

If you have a younger child that you really want to attend GDS, then apply for 6th grade and if he doesn't get in and the school still seems like a fit, apply again in 9th. You won't get blackballed for applying multiple times. While there are more slots in 9th, there are many fewer applicants in 6th and different standards for high school.

By far 9th, huge entry, something like 40 slots. 6th grade is more like 10-12
