+ 1, OP - I honestly do not know what it means and am very interested to find out. Just call her (now, preferably) and ask her what "no boxed gifts" means and then post her response. Please.

It means cash-- but for a kids b day party, that is the height of tackiness.

I've seen it discussed on here for weddings. For that it means cash or gift cards. Seems really odd for a kids bday party. How old is the birthday girl?

I have never seen this on a party invitation and we have 4 kids! I think I would bring a present in a gift bag.

I think it means they want unwrapped presents. I've seen that for showers, basically because the bride/mom to be doesn't want to open the presents so they are all just lined up and everyone can see them. Usually these mean no thank you notes either since the recipient could see the present and thank you for it then....

It means they are assholes. You can specify no gifts. You can not specify type of gift.

They just want cards with money in them. That's what I assume.
