No knowledge to offer, OP, but I am so sorry for your loss.

You've still gone through childbirth and as such as entitled to take sick leave to physically recover from the experience. If you need more time to recover emotionally, please do take it. I can't imagine a supervisor revoking previously approved leave simply because the baby did not survive.

Very sorry OP. So so sorry. I had a stillborn delivered at 30 weeks. I felt fine physically and decided to go back to work after 3.5 weeks. Worst decision ever because I still looked pregnant and I just got constant questions about when baby was due etc etc. If you work in an office with the same people everyday whom know your situation you wouldn't have this issue though. I am a care provider and deal with patients so I see people who know nothing about me constantly. So if I had to re do it all over again I would take 6 weeks off at least.

I was entitled to all 6, but only took 3. I felt pressured to come back. I was exhausted, physically, and should have taken at least one or two more weeks. Emotionally, it was incredibly difficult to go back, but I don't think another week or three would have changed that.

I'm sorry for your loss. As others have said, there is the physical recovery, which is slotted at 6-8 weeks, depending on the kind of delivery. You may want to go back before that, and that's okay, but you are entitled to the recovery period.

I would assume a woman would get 6 or 8wks off, or whatever was standard maternity leave at her company. I'd also assume that FMLA would apply. I have a male colleague who had not one but two separate stillborn children and each time I think he took 2 or 3wks off. I'm not sure how it was reflected on his time card, whether as parental leave or funeral/loss leave or FMLA.

I have been through this unfortunately. You are entitled to the 6-8 weeks (depending on type of delivery) as that time is intended for you to recover physically from the process. My physical recovery was very easy but mental one nor so much. DH and I spent a good chunk of our time off (he had. 4 weeks off for paternity leave which his boss let him use) away from home.

Having given birth. But it's up to the mother to decide.

I'm so sorry. I would think you should be entitled to the time off you get for a birth. Maybe going in earlier if you think you are ready and it might help.

It counts as having given birth since you need to physically recover from the childbirth process. Sorry for your loss.

Six weeks for sure, 8 for a c-section.

I'd take 2 weeks.

No experience here, but how could it be anything but the latter? Ones body still needs to recover from childbirth.

Does that fall under "death in the family" or "having given birth"?

One is two or three days off and the other is six weeks off.
