Why a pig? Deer season just ended. I would look for a butcher. They normally have lots of organic deer to sell. We just got 70 pounds from the buck we shot.

It'll be a drive, but if you're up for a trip to the country, go to Wilson Farms Meat Co in Catlett VA. They're super friendly and helpful, and the meat is the best I've ever had. For a to-die-for experience, get a few pounds of their bacon (it freezes well). Word of warning, they only take cash - but soooo worth it.

Large Asian supermarkets can help you with this.

I am interested in buying a share of an animal (1/2 a pig, 1/4 cow or the like) and am in search of a good local source. Our intention is to eat more local, non-factory-farm meat but we need to find something that is more affordable than typical farmer's market/organic grocery store fare - plus I'm looking forward to the challenge of learning to cook various cuts. It doesn't need to be certified organic, though ideally would be from a farm that implements sustainable practices. Does anyone have recommendations for a good source or experience to share? We're in MoCo.
