+1 So this is how some of the high-achieving kids are able to get all that HW done.

I did my kid's homework and projects but I made sure they understood the homework and projects. If they didn't, I taught them. The teacher can tell if your kid did the work or not, understands or not. You don't breakdown The Crucible without your kid at least reading the book. I thought it was my job to carry on the schooling in my home. But that's just me. Everyone has to do what they think is right.

I'm not even willing to allow that much, if there's any chance it could get DC busted for an academic integrity violation. I'll take dictation, read a chapter to her while she eats/showers/whatever, make vocab flashcards for her to study, or type up final drafts of papers working from a rough draft with editing notes, but I won't allow her to submit under her name any work which she did not do herself or follow the teacher's directions in the case of splitting a group project.

yup.

I'm better at teaching spanish than the spanish teacher, so I teach my kid what the teacher doesn't.

I will help him with any subject if he asks, but doing the homework doesn't achieve my goals.

It is tempting, though.

It doesn't make sense for you to do DC's homework if you're concerned about a bad grade -- the teacher won't notice that one student all of the sudden understands the material and is acing assignments, whereas every other student is still floundering, just as the one student was doing last week?

Cheating is a big deal, and can have severe repercussions. Much worse than a bad grade.

Not as you've presented it. The fact that you're asking and on a thread with this title means you question the ethics. If your kid wouldn't want to admit it to the world your kid should think twice about doing it. Also, if you do this what will DC do on tests or classwork without you present to assist?

Since you said you know the subject matter, I would advise working with your child yourself and teaching the material to DC so that DC is able to understand and answer the homework.

DC has one teacher who's been really objectionable in a number of ways: grades arbitrarily, explodes unpredictably, assigns things the kids can't learn or he hasn't taught them, etcetera. Because nothing makes sense a lot of the assignments are really hard and DC, a good student, is really stressed out by them (yes, we've complained to the administration, and they're working on it.) In the interim, I don't think it's fair for DC to get a bad grade on this stuff because it wasn't taught, nor for DC to be under so much pressure from it. I happen to know a lot about the subject matter and I can answer all the questions. I think I should, basically, do my child's work-it would take under 10 minutes a day-because DC isn't learning anything anyway. Would you allow this? Thanks.
