I understood the concept of jealousy at 11. Then again, I'm female and girls become quite petty early on.

But I can't help but wonder if a few of his friends said, 'Man, I'm so jealous! You're lucky to be leaving this crummy school! And you're going to Montessori???
How cool!!!'

I can remember my son's 3rd grade friends telling him he was so lucky and they were so jealous he was being pulled out of school for a week+ to go abroad.

When he recounted this, it didn't seem weird. Seemed like typical 'my school sucks' kid stuff.

I think that as a parent you build up the best parts of the new school so that your kid has an easier transition. It's almost as if you need to convince yourself that you made the right choice and it's worth the extra $$. My son is so happy at his new school that he THINKS everyone should be jealous.

I don't think it is that odd. It's probably not a great thing -- but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Maybe because his mom is odd and would constantly fantasize about people being jealous of her. They are long divorced so I don't see her.

My nephew is 10, he just started at a private Montessori mid grade last year due to problem he had at his other school.
Anyway, I saw him and he went on and on about how all his old classmates are so jealous that he goes to private Montessori. I found it an odd thing to say.
I wonder where he got the idea his old classmates are jealous. He took a lot of pride in it. His mom is weird and like to compete with the world. Maybe he got if from her.

Jealous wasn't even a word my kids used at that age.
