Krud Kutter. Apply a generous amount and leave on surface for a few minutes. Spot test first.

O.k. I just looked up that Steam Vapor System and, yes, I can see how that sucker would do the job. I was picturing a regular steam vac.

How are you going to get into tight little corners with a steam cleaner? I would think that a vacuum attachment would be better for sucking up gritty dirt and a one time (or maybe once a year) detailing with a sponge would do the job better.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea and ease of using a steam cleaner for this, but I'm just questioning how much it would actually pick up from hard to get areas.

Nothing short of amazing. Cleaned up our tile and grout so well when we were trying to get the house ready to sell. I was kicking myself for not buying it earlier so i could have enjoyed the clean floors. It is not a carpet cleaner at all (no suction) but I also used it to freshen up the carpet on our steps. They looked brand new after a pass with the steamer and brush attachment. Now that we've moved to our new (but very old) house, i'm blasting everything with it. Love how clean everything gets without the use of cleansers. Years of grime coming off without a great deal of effort. We use cleansers too of course, but the steam is great to really sanitize and for use in places where the smell of cleansers might be a problem. It was very expensive, but i do not regret even one penny. That said, i have not tried the cheaper steamers, so i have no comparison.

What kind do you have? Would you mind posting a link? Have you tried the cheaper ones and only the high end one worked?

Steam cleaner. The high end type. Blasts off everything and has been fabulous in the old house we bought. One of my smartest purchases ever.

When we moved into an old house like this, we replaced just about every piece of trim. It was so worth it. I use a swiffer 360 in these areas a few times a week, seems to keep the dust from building up.

We recently moved into an old house with lots of little rooms and alcoves. Charming. But also a magnet for dirt. How do you all maintain to keep the dark corners clean? For instance there a very small corner where decades of dirt has piled onto the awkward shaped trim and it is almost a sticky hard surface. I tried using regular cleaners and stuff but couldn't get most if it off. There are lots if other places like this. Can I hire someone to "detail" my house? And what about maintenance?
