My husband doesn't notice anything either positive or negative, unless things really get dangerous/unsanitary. It's all on me, since he has no sense of that at all.

Trying to educate the kids.

I would send him a calendar invite entitled "Keeping It Like This" with a list of what that actually entails.

OP, I hate to say it, but I have stopped trying. My house if falling down around me, but if I am the only one who cares, I quit. I don't have the energy to do it alone. And when I have taken my precious time (I am chief income earner) to take time of work to make it happen, it's undone in a matter of hours or DH fishes stuff out of the donations or trash and puts them back (mostly on the counter or stuffs them in a cupboard).

Good luck to you.

My husband would never disrespect me like that. If he saw something needing to be done he'd just do it. The only thing he'd ask is what cleaner I used.

My DH runs over to the nearest clean area and dumps his clothes/ books/ papers there.

That's a YOU problem for letting this behavior continue. My DW wouldn't even respond to that type of behavior. All you have to say is "Ugh!"?

No, I posted below. DH was raised to think it's normal men's behavior, and old habits die hard.

Why wouldnt you say, "I can't for the next _____ hours/days/weeks, but when can you do it? Or do you want me to call a cleaning service?"

I know the drill, so before he gets to his second line, I usually say:"sure, go for it". He gets genuinely surprised every time "why me?"

Mine tells me how nice it looks, and then promptly takes the opportunity to dump clutter there.

x2. Maybe followed up by, "Yeah! Took me a couple hours to do this but I'm guessing if you wanted to dust/vacuum/whatever every couple days it would look like this all the time! Let's definitely try for it!"

"It looks really good in here, let's try to keep it like this"

And I want to stab him in the eyeball with a sharp object. That is all!
