Thanks for the info. I'm very unhappy that Mom hasn't gotten these things, yet, which is why I'm starting to take charge in making it happen. They're in MD so I'm going to look for a medical supply place close by. They can pay out-of-pocket if necessary but their income is fixed. The more that Medicare pays for, the better.

The biggest problem is that Dad knows she needs it but is dragging it out, and Mom doesn't think she needs it at all but keeps falling. She's also becoming a bit confused at times and she's receiving tests for that right now.

The lift chair, you can try the out at Lazy boy or the back stores in the area but they are pricey there. We got MIL and FIL chairs at a medical supply place which was cheaper. The stair lift chair we got at Area Access in PW county. A medical supply store can give you names of places in your area. Your Dad should be told that if one of them needs it, it needs to be ordered asap because a fall down the stairs will result in 2-3 weeks in the hospital plus another 4-6 weeks in rehab or worse. do they have long term insurance? If so, the insurance will normally pay for these items.

My mother is 75 and has developed some significant mobility problems. She and my father have lived in the same 2-story house since 1970. My mother refuses to move and she desperately needs a motorized stair chair and a motorized lift chair/recliner to help her stand up from a sitting position. Her doctor has written the orders for these but Dad is dragging his feet on getting these items. He's the kind to spend years researching all of his options and then deciding that they are all junk (retired engineer). Anyway, has anyone purchased and used a stair chair and a lift chair (for standing up) or know someone who has ones that they like? It would be nice to see the lift chair/recliner before purchasing.
