That bed is an old fashioned look anyway, so I would have a nice plain skirt.

Yes, it is a pretty large room. But that's a good point about the World Market frames feeling larger. Maybe we should consider a World Market headboard + metal frame.

I like the upholstered ones bettrr and u think they are more the look you are going for. I think a tailored bed skirt is fine but if I were buying a new bed I would choose one that didn't need a bed skirt.

For me, it would depend on the bar that connects the head and foot boards. If it's the same metal as the rest of the bed, no skirt needed. If the bar is a standard metal bedtime bar, I'd get a skirt. I think some skirts look alright (like straight hanging as opposed to ruffled). It's not a minimalist, mid-century look but that's not what you're going for anyways.

I don't think they are outdated, but if you don't use one, you might consider a box spring cover, as shown in the photo. An exposed box spring looks unfinished to me.

I don't want a wooden frame because we have a lot of wood in the room already. So, that leaves metal or a padded headboard/frame.

I'm leaning towards metal because a padded headboard/frame (e.g. the ones at World Market) do not allow for a box spring, which would mean the bed would sit lower than our current bed (which includes a box spring). That in turn would mean we would need new nightstands. I really don't want to go there.

So back to my questions:

1. Are bed skirts outdated?
2. If we buy this LLBean bed, must we use a bed skirt?

FWIW, the style of our bedroom started out as sort of French Country years ago, but I've been making small changes to move it towards a more streamlined/transitional style. Simple is better. So I'd prefer to forgo a bed skirt if I can.

Thoughts please?
