They don't have to move out. People just pack some clothes to bring home. Kids don't move their TV out. They would probably bring their computer, ipad, bluetooth speaker, etc home. Get some insurance if your kid has super valuable stuff that they can't transport home.

I have two in college in totally different regions of the country. Neither has to move out of their dorm for Winter Break.

"suppose to"? Sounds like the college doesn't want any trouble - if something goes missing over winter break. Doesn't mean you have to do it, I wouldn't think. I would take this as a sign that maybe your daughter has too many '"valuables" at college, or you're being too cautious, or the campus has a unique problem with crime? My DD had a digital piano that she did spend some time wondering what to do. She dismantled it, and slid part of it under the bed. So we did have some concerns.
As parents we probably remember the day we arrived at college with one suitcase ~

Honestly, my DD is supposed to take valuables including TVs electronics etc. She did it first semester -that was it. Geesh! it's hard enough to get her to bring home her summer clothes!!

This is strangeā¦can you tell us more, OP. Is it possible that you and your DD have actually misunderstood what she is supposed to do over her break?

Never heard of that and I have 2 in college right now. The dorms close for break but the kids only take whatever they pack in their suitcase to come home. One of mine flies home so definitely isn't taking more than a suitcase worth.

At my school some of the sports teams had to move into a different part of campus for training over the break. But they were just assigned into existing rooms. And the people left their stuff. I think that is strange.

Where is this? Usually the dorms are closed, but people don't move out during winter break (unless they are going to be elsewhere the next semester).

Why do colleges do this dumb "moving out" thing for Xmas break which is only about a month. Ugh. Dd is moving her stuff out only to move back in. Why is this a thing?
